The Firm

Moore Stephens & Butterfield represents the Bermuda based firm of the Moore Stephens International Network.

With a presence in Bermuda since 1954 Moore Stephens & Butterfield has recently undergone a process of expanding our base in Bermuda. Considered one of the top 6 accounting practice in Bermuda we are seeking to expand the audit team to take on new and challenging projects in the coming years.

The current client base ranges from front end Reinsurers to captives and Marine P&I Clubs.

The Island

Bermuda is home to:
- the world's largest captive insurance/reinsurance and financial line insurance markets.
- the world's third largest insurance market, after London and New York.
- the fourth largest reinsurance market in the world after Germany, the US and Switzerland, including 13 of the world’s top 40 reinsurers.

From 2004 Bermuda-based reinsurers’ total net written reinsurance premiums exceeded those of London-based reinsurers. Bermuda has developed an insurance and reinsurance market with capacity now greater than that of Lloyd's of London. Bermuda-based companies provide 30%, the largest block, of Lloyd's total capacity.

The Bermuda insurance and reinsurance market has developed over more than 30 years, starting with the captive industry in the 1970’s, the excess liability insurance market in the 1980’s, the large capital of the early 1990’s to create new reinsurance companies and, most recently, the large flow of new capital that responded to the needs of the industry post September 11, 2001. New, unencumbered financial capital and enormous intellectual capital were again attracted to Bermuda after Hurricanes Rita, Wilma and Katrina in 2005. These waves of new resources have created a financial powerhouse for risk transfer, with total assets in the Bermuda Insurance Market estimated at around $300 billion today.
