The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) is the official history agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It has over 400 employees performing a variety of duties at 24 historic sites and museums across the Commonwealth and its Commission offices located in Harrisburg. Created in 1945, it is responsible for the collection, conservation and interpretation of Pennsylvania’s historic heritage, accomplished through the Bureau for Historic Preservation, the Pennsylvania State Archives, the State Museum of Pennsylvania, and the Pennsylvania Trail of History®.
The PHMC preserves the Commonwealth’s memory as a teacher and champion of its heritage for citizens of Pennsylvania and the nation.
