EXPERIENCE: BS Chem E with 5-15 years experience from the specialty chemical and/or petrochemical industry. An MS degree or professional engineer registration is considered a bonus. A GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher is also a plus.
The candidate must have a solid background in conceptual and detailed process design, along with process control experience associated with troubleshooting and loop analysis of moderately complex control loops. One must possess a detailed knowledge and experience in performing heat and material balances, energy analysis of plant systems, be capable of balancing minor chemical equations, performing detailed process simulations around reactor and distillation processes using advanced simulation software. Knowledge of Aspen Plus or other process simulation software is required. Candidates must be able to develop engineering flow diagrams (PFD and P&ID) and perform minor material takeoffs to produce high level capital estimates. Six Sigma background with green belt training is ideal, but a demonstrated proficiency in process optimization is sufficient. Some environmental projects with air permitting experience is also preferred. An ideal candidate is someone who has experience in multiple unit operations, in various chemical industries in order to utilize that background to improve the throughput, yield and energy conservation within various types of chemical processing units on site. The candidate should have some plant start-up and shutdown experience and be comfortable working with and communicating with operating technicians.
PERSONALITY: Someone who can "hit the ground running" and can multi-task on many different levels with minimal supervision. Verbal and written communication must be excellent. The site operates with self-directed work teams, so prioritization of activities for self and others is essential. The candidate must demonstrate the skills to work within a self-directed work team, and be able to form and lead a team of technical and/or non-technical personnel in problem solving issues and implementing improvements to the process.
DUTIES: Responsible for daily production output, in conjunction with the shift personnel. Provide technical advice and guidance to maximize output and minimize cost, primarily in the form of yield and energy improvements. Daily monitoring of the process (via DCS historian; i.e.- OSI/PI, Honeywell PHD, etc….), in conjunction with analytical result , are integral parts of the daily job responsibilities. All supporting functions are also included in the job responsibilities, such as spreadsheet management, DCS updates, coordinating daily production activities with the teams, managing catalyst inventories, etc… Must be able to lead PHA's for initial safety reviews on production projects and for PHA revalidations.
KEY WORDS: Process optimization, heat and material balances, process simulations, Unit operations experience, start-ups and shutdowns, self-motivated, team leader, troubleshooting, PHA, P&IDs, excellent communicator, organized.
